Impurity was the last track on the demo, so therefore - one of our older songs. This is the favourite amongst many of our “fans” … hihi! Loads of people come up to us and say that this is our strongest track. I far from agree, but what the hell, if people dig it - then it’s cool with me.
This song is more “death metal” than our other songs. It contains more fast parts, guttural vocals and blasts than any of the other tracks. This is more straight to your face death metal. Maybe that is why the incarnated death freaks think of this as our best “slice of metal”. We in the band like the song, but it’s gettin’ old, maybe that is why we don’t regard it as highly as other people. Also the song is more straight forward. That could also be the reason why we are gettin’ a lttle tired of playing it. I know it’s faster than our average song, but believe me - it is very easy to play. We have a handful of songs that demand our concentration, but this one we just play. So… do you know what I mean?
This was also a joint collaboration. Martin, myself and Jakob did the riffs for this, and I believe that it was the third song we ever wrote. We had done to heavy songs before this one, so we really wanted to do a fast song - Impurity is the result of this.
The lyrics for this one was written the day before I was comitted to the hospital - the day before before they slit my throat and removed a large tumor (luckily it was not malignant). I don’t know if it made any difference in the lyrical content, but I was shittin’ myself those days before the “slicing”… hmm…. Don’t know.
This song also contains backing vocals performed by me. Very short, but they are there.
Thanks for reading cunts!!!!! Next time it will be “Beyond Murder”

Alrighty then… This is one of the first songs we wrote. Domestic Slaughter and Intent To kill were the first two tracks, just can’t seem to remember which one came first. Hmmm?
Without saying too much, I can easily say that this is the easiest of all all our songs to play. In my opinion it’s a little boring in comparison to the other songs on the album, but if you were to ask Scott, he would say that it’s a killer track. He really loves the sheer heaviness of the song, and he loves his vocal work on the track - really guttural vokills… NICE!!!! But I think, that all in the band agree on it as a perfect song for live situations. For the song is, as stated before, very easy to play, so we can give it hell as we perform it it live. You can expect loads of chopper-bangin’ and rockstar poses live as we go through this one.
This is the only song that really has “gory” lyrics, and I can tell you why - This was, as mentioned previously, one of our first tracks, and when we did it we didn’t know which direction we were going in, lyrically. Later we found out, that it wasn’t our thing, but fuck no if I was goin’ to change it. So that is why the lyrics are bit more bloody and primitive on this one…
So basically a very simple, groovy and heavy as fuck song that kills live. Martin wrote the whole song, or almost anyways. I think I helped with one end part of a riff - Yeah, that’s about it.
I am happy that we put it on the album, ’cause it really stands out and causes some diversity in the listen-through. Also, it might appeal to some “non-death metal” listeners. You know, maybe they would give us an extra chance after hearing Intent To Kill.

Within the Flesh is one of the songs I would say represents us the best. It contains everything that we wish to purvey - Heavy riffing, groove, semi-tecnical parts, thrash elements and loads of breaks. We often open with this song live, ’cause it just works on all fronts.
This was a joint collaboration - Martin, myself and Jakob all did loads of parts for this one, and we even helped eachother out with the different riffs. So this was definetly one we did together. And without Kim’s drumming it wouldn’t have sounded like it does. You know, one tends to shift around original ideas after hearing the different drum-patterns. We might have thought of certain things when putting the song together, but after Kim started putting his touch on the song, it changed ….well… you know…. We did it TOGETHER, was what I was trying so say.
A little story of a riff in the song. In the middle of the song we have this fast riff that changes alot (2:15). The drums and bass on the riff, are just in break-form. They never really “play-along” with the main pattern. Jakob was the main man behind that particular riff, but one can say that I pushed it further. The riff is about 4 times longer than it started out to be. Me and Jakob were like - “What about putting this on it, yeah, and why not this ending….cool, and what about adding this note…yeah cool…and this one as well”…haha… It was great fun. We kept on changing that riff loads of times, but now we are glad that we did.
The “Anger rages” vocal-part is done by me..Just to let you know. I did backing on 5 songs. So far on the track run through, I did stuff on “degrading” and this one…Oh, and another thing - I actually recorded some rhythm guitar on this one. Very little, but it’s still there….HAHA!!!! But it’s true. I am not pulling your leg.
This is one of Scott’s highlights if you ask me. The vocals are deadly on this one. Just listen to the motherfucker as he shouts “Within the Flesh”. I couldn’t imagine any other vocalist in the world, making it sound more brutal and fierce than than Scott did.

Alrighty then… This is one of my absolute favourites. What can I say about “Degrading”??? Well, let’s see…. Besides the lyrics, I myself, haven’t written anything for this song…. I usually have a riff or two in each song…… And it’s still one of my favourites, that must mean…hmmm….????…OH NO!!!!!…hahaha!!!!
All the riffs for this one were written or created, whatever tickles your fancy, by Martin and Jakob. The first part of the song or the first couple of heavy minutes, were of Martin’s doing, and as far as I remember, they did the remaining, and more uptempo part of the song, in joint partnership…ehhh….sounds gay. The faster “thrash-like riffs” were done by Jakob. Of this I am sure.
It’s strange to take the song apart, for it consists of two very different “feels”. The first part is really heavy, very New York style death metal - very SUFFOCATION!!!!…yeah!!!!! And the last part is more thrashy and uptempo groove-like. Usually we would keep the same “speed” or bpm (beats per minute) for each song, but with “Degrading the Worthless” we wanted to try something different. We actually shifted the bpm in the middle of the song… And believe me when I say this - It was hell to record the first rhythm guitar at the turning point of the speed change, but we made it work… Stills works out pretty fine if you ask me. Usually we don’t fuck with things like that, but I’m glad that we chose to do so.
Hmmm….What can I say more about the song…????…well…. The lyrics were written just after seing “SAW”. Can you spot the inspiration, or am I just fucked up in the head? Come on…….Let me know dudes and dudettes

This is one of our older tracks. To the few people out there, that know the band and have heard our demo, know that this was the titletrack from it. We re-recorded it, and loads of people have asked us why? … Here’s the answer - First of all, we play the song better nowadays. So with that in the back our heads, we knew we could record it better this time around. Second of all, we thought that the song was a bit too slow on the demo. So we gave it 10 percent more in speed, and thereby making it more fresh and aggressive …. Well atleast I think so. We used a very short intro on this one.. Why? well….because it sounds cool!!!! No, we just thought, that since we were recording the song once again, that we would do something new. So… That’s basically it.
I seem to want to point out small finesses from each song, so here goes: We do a couple of strange (or just not D.O.D like) things on “Blood”. Take for example the”odd-time” drum rhythm in the middle of the song. I remember Jakob “hating” that particular riff, but he didn’t just end up liking it, but loving it. Well, back to the business at hand….hmmm…. The drum pattern. Kim came up with this strange little drum pattern, and we fuckin’ loved it. But it was a very strange experience for us in the band as we listened to Kim saying “how does this sound?”, ’cause Kim is basically a rock n’ roll drummer. He usually just grooves and grinds (hehe), and usually isn’t very fond of “smart-ass” drumming. So when he came up with the short pattern, we were like - “WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!??????”. to this day, we still enjoy that center-part of the song. Besides that the song holds (of things we usually don’t do) - a long melodic, twin-guitar harmony theme at the end of the song and, get ready for this -Full bass chords… hahaha!!!!
This song has been referred to as “Dawn of Demise’s Stairway to heaven” by Kevin from, you know it boyz & girlz, Revolution-music.dk. I can’t say that I agree, but nicely put…. T(h)anks for that dude.

Let’s see…. The title track, and also the first track on the cd, is one of our newer concoctions. The first memory I have of this track, is Scott saying “Bjørn, I am not really liking the vocal parts”. This being funny today, because it’s Scott’s absolute favourite track.
This is probably our fave song. I think we in the band are all in agreement, when I say that this is our best effort on the album. Some might listen more to another track, any given week, but if we were asked to point out one track to represent us, it would be “Hate Takes its Form”. It contains everything we stand for: Heavy riffing, small fast parts, a dash of technique and loads of groove. We were all doing riffs and ideas for this one. Martin, myself and Jakob had a few ideas, and with Kim’s groovy drumming, these ideas just melted together, and formed my own track-fave.
“Hate Takes its Form” contains a very non-Dawn of Demise like riff. In the middle of the song, we have this staccato riff, that goes from a more Fear Factory-like feel, into the moshing heaviness, with fast bass-drums at the end. That is something you won’t hear that often from us, but this time it worked. Actually my riff, and my drum ideas. I remember thinking that I wouldn’t even show it to them… It honestly isn’t something we’d usually use, but luckily we did. ‘Cause man it rocks…haha…
Jacob Bredahl ex-Hatesphere also lent a helping hand (or throat) on this one. We had spoken to him about putting some vocals down for us on the album. And after the lyrics were done, we came up with this part. I am so happy that we brought him in on the track. It just gives it that extra special something. And Jacob is a cool dude, so… you know? We wanted him on it. I told him to shout and scream as much as he could. I remember saying “make it sound like Obituary - you know give it some John Tardy”… to those who know the song - “Can you hear it…huh?”…hahaha
